Your Voice Matters

We Work Together

Our City Deserves Better

Dear Neighbour,

Hi! I’m Michael Shiu and I'm running to be your councillor here in Ward 6 on Richmond Hill City Council. For the past 15 years, I’ve been a professional journalist at Fairchild Media Group where it was our role to protect free speech and hold our leaders accountable. I have learnt how vital it is to ensure our elected officials show accountability to the people they serve. Over this time, I’ve had the opportunity to listen to the voices of Richmond Hill, and gained much insight on the issues that affect our community.

In addition, I’ve also worked in a Member of Provincial Parliament's constituency office for Richmond Hill and at the Mon Sheong Foundation, where my journalism background and fluency in English, Cantonese and Mandarin helped to serve the diverse needs of our community. It’s truly humbling to have been engaged so deeply in community work, and that has enabled me to appreciate even more the great talent, goals and aspirations of all those that call our beautiful Richmond Hill home.

I am running for local councillor because I know great councillors can make a positive difference for thousands of lives in Richmond Hill: one person at a time, one family at a time, one street at a time.

I hope to continue upon my 30-year working experience by serving as your elected representative here in Ward 6. I’m positive we can bring people together and improve our quality of life in Richmond Hill. There are so many critical areas of work we have yet to achieve, and I believe I can be the accountable voice of Ward 6 to make that happen. It is with this spirit that I’m asking you to give me the honour of serving as your next Councillor on Richmond Hill City Council. Can I count on your support?
